The president of the fifth symposium on genetics and stem cells with a gene therapy approach regarded this area as one of the fields that have had suitable improvements with the help of the researchers of the country.

According to the public relations and information center of the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs, gene transcription is a name that is constantly heard in today’s world of medicine.

“Gene transcription decreased the emission pace of cancer cells.” “Sickle cell anemia of mice was healed applying the CRISPR technology.” CRISPR removed the HIV genome from living organs.” These sentences were selected from a video clip displayed on the inauguration ceremony of the fifth symposium on genetics and stem cells, held by the efforts of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies.

The event was attended by professors, activists, and students to talk about the information of this field. A total of 16 lectures and specialized panels were held in the event, aiming at taking a step toward the progress of the country in this field.

Amir Ali Hamidieh, the president of the fifth symposium on genetics and stem cells, affirmed: symposiums must challenge new issues and future needs to motivate creative Iranian researchers and youth to move toward enhancement along with the prominent groups of the area so that Iran’s status in this field could soar. To date, we have had proper improvements in the field of gene therapy.

Secretary of the council for stem cells sciences and technologies also asserted: along with the industrial revolution, Iran was left behind, which resulted in the lack of progress in some areas. Currently, we have witnessed new phenomenon in field of medicine and we must move along with this issue. Any hesitation will cost us greatly in the future. Now is the time to improve our status in the world by the help of students and professors.

Reza Shervin Badv, head of the pediatrics center, regarded the event as a factor for link between activities in the area of gene therapy with other activities of field of medicine.

In another part of the event, Ali Akbar Haghdoust, head of Salamat Future Studies Research Center, expressed about the effect of medical field on the future of humans, adding: throughout history, humans have always had great aspirations, and many consider the 21st century as the response time. Having an eternal life, happiness, and supernatural power is one of these aspirations.

He also mentioned: among these aspirations, it seems that the realization of two wishes, meaning the eternal life and the supernatural power, could be realized through progress in the cellular, molecular and genetic fields, and is directly related to these concepts. He expressed his hope that we can move in this area by strengthening the culture of group work, efforts, hopes and plans.
